Respectful of nature and limited personal space, the Japanese make the shared ascent of 12,388-foot Mt. Fuji a beautiful shared experience. But the recent recognition of the peak as a UNESCO World Heritage site has many worrying that the new status will draw still more people, adding to the wear and tear on the environment from the more than 400,000 who already climb the mountain each year.
